Domain 3: Instruction
Component 3a: Communicating with Students
Component 3a emphasizes the importance of communication with students (or their parents if they are too young). An open line of communication can improve the classroom environment, students' behavior, and grads. The elements of 3a are expectations for learning, directions and procedures, explanations of content, and use of oral and written language.
Teachers should always be clear on expectations and make sure students understand them. If the class is not sure what the teacher is expecting, it will cause unnecessary confusion and stress. Directions and procedures on how to meet such expectations can greatly help students. Educators should make sure students can ask questions if there is anything they need clarified on the directions and procedures. The teacher should break down content and guide students till they can understand. Students should also feel comfortable asking questions on content if needed. Some ways to communicate with students are newsletters, papers home, emails, teams/remind, parent teacher conferences, posters, feedback on assignments, greeting at the door

Component 3b: Using Questioning and Discussion Techniques
3b explains how beneficial the questioning and discussion instruction styles can be in a classroom. Both of these techniques increase student engagement and help them better understand the content. Elements of this component are critical thinking and deeper understanding, reasoning and reflection, and student participation.
Good teachers should know what questions to ask. A good question should have multiple answers as to spark conversation and deeper thinking. Open ended questions often make for better student participation as well, which is crucial to a good discussion.

Component 3c: Engaging Students in Learning
3c talks about the importance of student engagement. In order to teach effectively, an educator must know how to grab their students. Elements of this component are rich learning experiences, collaboration and teamwork, use of instructional materials and resources, and opportunities for thinking and reflection.
Instruction is a very important part of the classroom. Teachers must carefully decide on what instruction is best for their students. Oftentimes it increases engagement for students to have some choices in what they work on. Whatever students are completing should be relevant and challenging to them.

3d Using Assessment For Learning
Assessment plays a large role in learning, as explained in 3d. Summative assessments, which are usually done at the end of a unit and are graded, can be a great way to see students' progress and how much information they are retaining. Formative assessment includes all of the ways a teacher can informally see where students are at in their learning and plays a large part in their overall learning. Elements of this component include clear standards for success, monitoring student understanding, and timely, constructive feedback.
In order for students to actually be successful, the teacher must set what success in their classroom looks like. In this journey, educators must pay attention to the progress their students are making and what needs they may have. A good teacher should also give feedback that is honest yet encouraging.

3e: Demonstrating Flexibility and Responsiveness
3e is all about being flexible with your students. In order to be an effective educator, one must understand when they need to adapt to their classroom needs. Elements consist of lesson adjustments, response to our students, and persistence.
